Canada is observing a sombre day on this inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
It is a day to recognize the horrors of Canada’s former residential school system and honour the lost children and survivors.
Sarah Ritchie is a member of the Metis Nation of Ontario.
She adds non-indigenous people should not see the day as some kind of personal attack but rather a day to educate ourselves and for all of us to heal.
The federal holiday was one of the 94 calls-to-action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
