Police are investigating multiple reports of residents being targeted in a sextortion scam over social media.
South Simcoe Police say this happens when someone threatens to send sexual images of you to other people if you don’t pay the person or provide more sexual content.
In one instance a male victim received a social media request from a female.
Following a few minutes of texting, a video chat was initiated and sexual images of the victim were obtained.
The suspect immediately demanded money in exchange for the deletion of the video and even went so far as sending a copy to the victims mother.
Police say if this happens remain calm, do not send cash, cut off contact but save all communications with the person and contact the authorities.
If this has happened to you police ask that you contact them.
