Statistics Canada says the economy is bouncing back to pre-pandemic levels as 90,000 jobs were added across the country last month
The unemployment rate fell to 7.1% for August, compared with 7.5% in July and overall employment is within 0.8% of the level recorded in February 2020 before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s the third consecutive monthly rise and the closest the country has been to recouping all the jobs lost during the first wave of COVID-19
Provincially, the rate went from 8% in July to 7.6% last month.
Locally, the number also improved from 9.8% to 9.3% in August.
