We’re saying goodbye to myFM here in Milton.
Earlier this year, My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) sold three of its stations in a package deal to an upstart company called Local Radio Lab Inc. This deal included 101.3 myFM in Milton, 101.5 myFM in Orangeville, and 92.1 myFM in Alliston. A separate, unrelated sale was made with a third party involving an Oldies station in Kincardine.
101.3 FM station general manager Hilary Montbourquette details what will change.
MBC runs as a province-wide network of radio stations with roughly 20 signals under its wing. 101.3 FM in Milton will be leaving this network to be a part of a new company, which has the goal of bringing the most local content to its market.
Montbourquette explains how this sale will make us even more local.
Here’s the fun thing: we get to build a radio station almost from scratch! We’ll be moving away from our simulcasted on-air announcers in favour of unique in-person morning shows in all three of the markets. Instead of hearing the voice of someone from across Ontario, you’ll be hearing someone broadcasting directly out of our Milton studio.
Over the last few months, we’ve asked the community what you would want out of your local radio station. Suggestions from listeners included:
- More variety in music;
- more news coverage on local businesses, sports, art, agriculture, and genuine feel good stories;
- regular traffic updates;
- improved on-air talent; and,
- a better, stronger signal.
While we can’t promise all of that at once, it’s our goal to listen to our audience to provide the absolute best product for our consumers. We love this community just as much as you do, Milton.
The shift begins on Wednesday, September 1st. That said, the changes will be gradual over the month of September and minor mistakes are almost but a guarantee… but that’s part of the fun, right?
Thank you to MBC for being a second family to our staff. They’ve given us the resources necessary to help provide Milton residents with local news and Milton businesses with local coverage. It’s been a fun four-years, and we’re excited for the next journey!
