The Rotary Club of Milton is hoping to cheer up the seniors at Allendale Long Term Care Home.
A fundraising campaign called ‘Smiles for Seniors’ is set to provide them with care packages. The Club has partnered with Allendale in hopes of raising money for 200 packages.
Organizer Abiola Akinremi says it’s about lifting spirits.
She is a registered nurse who works with seniors in a mental health capacity. She’s been working during the pandemic and the need to put smiles on their faces grew over time. It’s a kind of support that they need.
The care packages are going to be simple, so things like:
- toothpaste;
- toothbrush;
- comb;
- hand cream;
- sanitizer;
- tissues; and,
- shampoo.
Akinremi says they’re things that people use on a daily basis, so the gifts can go a long way in helping the seniors’ mental health.
La Rose Bakery has provided a $50 gift card as well, which will also be used for baked treats for the residents.

If you run a local business (retail, grocery store, etc.), you can contact her at miltonrotary7080@gmail.com, as well as by phone at 416-797-1034. Akinremi says the Rotary Club can always pick up any gifts provided.
