A Milton baseball team is one of the best in the province.
The Milton Bats U16 Rep Fastpitch team won a silver medal in their provincial softball championship recently. All in all, the Milton team finished second of 32 teams in their Tier 2 Division.
Head Coach Damon Smith says that while the girls would have loved winning gold, it was still a successful season.
He adds that the girls typically train from October through the winter to May. With everything getting shut down, it made the offseason a little harder for the girls.
The Milton Bats lost in two games to the Mississauga North Tigers in a best of three series. Smith highlights two of the players that stood out the most during the shortened season.
Fortunately, he says, this was a young team. The age brackets will shift around for the next season and the majority of the girls on this silver-medal winning team will be back next year, pending any surprises.
That said, the team is always looking for new players. Tryouts will begin in September as the Milton Bats make a stride for gold. You can register here.
As a coach, Smith stresses the human side of the game. He wants his players to learn responsibility and the importance of commitment. The Milton team has a reputation of being hardworking, and he’s proud of the girls and what they’ve accomplished.
