
Two Toronto men have been arrested and charged following an investigation into a mail fraud case.
Back in January 2020, Peel officers found several Canada Post mailboxes damaged. The suspects had reportedly broken into the mailboxes to steal cheques that were inside. The suspects would then allegedly deposit the stolen cheques into various banks and conduct various transactions.
The Halton Police joined Canada Post, ScotiaBank, Peel Police, York Regional Police, and Toronto Police in the investigation.
Search warrants were executed on Monday, May 17th and the two men were arrested.
29-year-old Zsolt Gaspar of Toronto was charged with:
- Mischief Over $5000;
- Theft from Mail;
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime;
- Fraud of $5000; and,
- two counts of Failing to comply with a release order.
He appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice for a bail hearing.
An 18-year-old Toronto man, who was under the age of 18 at the time the alleged offences were committed, was charged with:
- one count of Possession of Stolen Property; and,
- Fraud Over $5000.
He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
Further arrests are anticipated in relation to this investigation.
