The Halton Police says that seven people are facing impaired driving charges after being stopped last week.
Two of the cases involved Milton:
On Tuesday, May 11th, just before 12:30 a.m., Halton Police officers responded to a collision in the area of Trafalgar Road and Derry Road East in Halton Hills. As a result of an investigation, a 32-year-old Brampton man was charged with operation while impaired.
On Tuesday, May 11th, just before 8:30 p.m., Halton Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Lawson Road in Milton. As a result of an investigation, a 51-year-old Milton man was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more, within two hours.
On Wednesday, May 12th, just before 1:30 a.m., Halton Police officers responded to a collision in the area of Guelph Line and Number 25 Side Road in Milton. As a result of an investigation, a 25-year-old Burlington woman was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more, within two hours.
On Wednesday, May 12th, just after 3:00 p.m., Halton Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Plains Road East and King Road in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, a 20-year-old Hamilton woman was charged with operation while impaired.
On Wednesday, May 12th, just after 9:00 p.m., Halton Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Ford Drive and North Service Road in Oakville. As a result of an investigation, a 22-year-old Mississauga resident was charged with operation while impaired.
On Thursday, May 13th, just before 2:00 a.m., Halton Police officers responded to a collision in the area of Number 1 Side Road and Walkers Line in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, a 27-year-old Scarborough man was charged with operation while impaired.
On Thursday, May 13th, just after 7:30 p.m., Halton Police officers responded to a citizen-initiated complaint in the area of Strathcona Drive and Apply Valley Lane in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, a 77-year-old Burlington resident was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more, within two hours.
Remember, driving under the influence is considered a crime in progress. Call 9-1-1 if you suspect that someone on the road is driving impaired.
Here are some signs of an impaired driver provided by the Halton Police:
- Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed;
- Drifting in and out of lanes;
- Tailgating and changing lanes frequently;
- Making exceptionally wide turns;
- Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance;
- Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights;
- Disregarding signals and lights;
- Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly;
- Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on; and,
- Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather.
The HRPS says that its officers remain committed to road safety through prevention, education, and enforcement initiatives.
