The Halton Police says that seven people are facing impaired driving charges after being stopped last week.
One of the cases involved Milton:
On Tuesday, May 4th, just after 6:00 p.m., Halton Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Millcroft Park and Turnberry Drive in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, a 19-year-old Burlington resident was charged with operation while impaired.
On Tuesday, May 4th, just after 9:30 p.m., Halton Police officers responded to a collision in the area of Third Line and Merchants Gate in Oakville. As a result of an investigation, a 24-year-old Acton resident was charged with operation while impaired.
On Wednesday, May 5th, just after 3:30 p.m., Halton Police officers responded to a collision in the area of Appleby Line and Britannia Road in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, a 59-year-old Hamilton resident was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more, within two hours.
On Wednesday, May 5th, just before 6:00 p.m., Halton Police officers responded to a citizen-initiated complaint in the area of Brant Street and Mount Forest Drive in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, a 47-year-old Guelph resident was charged with operation while impaired.
On Thursday, May 6th, just before 1:00 p.m., Halton Police officers responded to a citizen-initiated complaint in the area of Regional Road 25 and Louis St. Laurent Avenue in Milton. As a result of an investigation, a 49-year-old Bradford resident was charged with operation while impaired.
On Thursday, May 6th, just before 9:30 p.m., Halton Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Plains Road East and Falcon Boulevard in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, a 43-year-old Stoney Creek resident was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more, within two hours.
On Thursday, May 6th, just before 10:00 p.m., Halton Police officers responded to a citizen-initiated complaint in the area of Grosvenor Street and Upper Middle Road in Oakville. As a result of an investigation, a 31-year-old Mississauga resident was charged with operation while impaired.
Remember, driving under the influence is considered a crime in progress. Call 9-1-1 if you suspect that someone on the road is driving impaired.
Here are some signs of an impaired driver provided by the Halton Police:
- Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed;
- Drifting in and out of lanes;
- Tailgating and changing lanes frequently;
- Making exceptionally wide turns;
- Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance;
- Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights;
- Disregarding signals and lights;
- Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly;
- Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on; and,
- Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather.
The HRPS says that its officers remain committed to road safety through prevention, education, and enforcement initiatives.
