On Tuesday, the Halton Region Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hamidah Meghani, said the recent increases in new cases proves that we are in a third wave.
“Although we have made significant progress in our vaccine rollout, we are seeing an increase in cases, particularly among variants of concern, and are firmly in a third wave of COVID-19. While our quick and steady rollout of vaccines is critical, it is only one important way we can protect each other and stop COVID-19. As we approach the long weekend, I urge residents to remain vigilant and not gather with individuals outside of your household. Please continue to follow all public health measures including wearing a mask and physical distancing from anyone you do not live with even if you or others have been vaccinated.”
The Premier of Ontario also announced a third shutdown for the province this afternoon. The provincewide emergency brake would put in place time-limited public health and workplace safety measures to help to stop the rapid transmission of COVID-19 variants in communities, protect hospital capacity and save lives.
