The 2021 provincial budget was announced recently. myFM News spoke with the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance, Stan Cho, on the budget. Read that here.
MPP Gill says this new budget will be the next phase in fighting COVID-19.
“For the past year, we have been focused on protecting people from COVID-19 and with this budget, I am proud of the many investments we are making in Milton and in communities right across this province.”
The 2021 Budget includes renewed investments to Milton and builds on the government’s record investments in response to the global pandemic, bringing total investments of Ontario’s COVID-19 action plan to $51 billion.
“Keeping families and loved ones healthy and safe will always be a top priority,” MPP Gill confirms. “Once we receive vaccines from the Federal Government, we are working hard to make sure they are available for anyone who wants one.”
A big factor for local families is the third round of support payments for parents. As noted previously, The payment will be doubled to $400 per child and $500 for each child with special needs.
Students and schools are also receiving more funding. More than $1.6 billion in critical supports is being provided to protect against the spread of COVID-19. Local school boards have received over $55 million.
“It is no secret that our community continues to grow, and I am proud to be part of a government that invests in our growth,” says MPP Gill. “Since elected, our government has a strong record of increased investments for students in Milton, giving them every tool to achieve their full potential.”
Another aspect of the Budget that was announced that will affect Milton is the investment of $63.3 million, students, businesses, and farms into Milton’s rural community. The investment means rural Milton will soon have access to reliable, high-speed internet, as part of the government’s Up-to-Speed: Broadband and Cellular Access plan which features a renewed investment of an additional $2.8 billion.
Long-term care homes are also receiving more funding. To date, Milton has received a total of 416 new long-term care spaces. Long-term care homes in Milton have also received over $2.1 million to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect those most vulnerable and the staff who have been working tirelessly to keep them safe.
“Whether it is creating new beds, improving living spaces, or giving the best quality of care, Budget 2021 represents a tremendous investment into our community of Milton to care for those in need,” states MPP Gill.
