Adult Canadians score surprisingly low in literacy and numeracy skills.
That’s according to the Executive Director at ABC Life Literacy, Mack Rogers, who says that low skill levels are correlated with financial insecurity and lower civic engagement.
These days, Rogers says literacy and digital skills are even more essential in the skilled workforce than numeracy skills.
Rogers says 48% of adult Canadians fall below the high school level in literacy and almost 55% score in the two lowest skill levels in numeracy.
The organization recently launched ABC Online Skills Hub, a free online learning portal for adults who want to brush up on their skills.
