The Halton Region has updated the age allowed to book appointments at its vaccination clinics.
Starting Friday, March 19th, Halton residents 75-years and older can book appointments, as well as Indigenous residents (including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit populations) 55-years and older.
“This is another important step in our plan to get our most vulnerable Halton residents vaccinated as quickly as possible, as supplies are available,” says Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “I would like to thank Halton Region, Joseph Brant Hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital staff who have been working tirelessly to open our vaccination clinics in each of our municipalities, and our teams who have been doing a tremendous job administering vaccinations.”
Appointments are available to book in March and April.
Vaccination numbers are updated weekly, with the most recent update being on Friday, March 12th. A total of 40,922 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Halton:
- 28,367 have been administered through the Halton Healthcare COVID-19 Vaccination Centre;
- 11,385 have been administered through the Halton Region Public Health and Paramedic Mobile Teams;
- 1170 have been administered through the newly launched COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
“As our vaccination program ramps up, I want to remind residents that the COVID-19 virus and the transmission of the variants is still very concerning,” says Dr. Hamidah Meghani, Halton Region’s Medical Officer of Health. “Vaccines are just one important tool to help stop the spread of the virus and we must remain vigilant – please continue to stay home as much as possible, limit close contact to people you live with and go out for essentials only. These everyday decisions are critical over the next few weeks and months to prevent the severity of a third wave and will help to get us back to normal sooner.”
