A lengthy investigation by the Special Investigations Unit has acquitted a Halton Police officer.
The investigation was into a September crash involving a suspect’s Honda Fit. The officer had responded to a complaint of a brick being thrown through the window of a business on Main Street in Milton.
The officer was sitting on Nipissing Road facing east toward Thompson Road South. The suspect’s vehicle drove past at speeds reportedly as high as 150 km/h. The officer had pursued the driver for roughly 15 seconds before deciding it was unsafe to continue.
The Honda Fit later ran a red light on Regional Road 25 and Derry Road and collided with other vehicles. The 21-year-old Honda driver suffered a fractured clavicle and unspecified internal injuries. The driver of a pick-up truck, a 31-year-old woman, suffered a concussion
The officer was cleared of causing dangerous operation causing bodily harm as a result of the collision, with the SIU stating “there is no basis for proceeding with charges against the officer.”
