The Milton Rotary Club is offering a scholarship to high school students.
There are three $1500 scholarships available for high school students of any age. It’s for students who live in Milton, but they don’t need to attend school in our town.
The Director of Community Service with the Club, Rod McLachlan, says that volunteerism will be the focus of the scholarship.
He adds that they are looking for students who have done more than the mandatory 40-hours of community service.
While the pandemic has put a strain on possible volunteerism for students, the scholarships are being offered to students of any age. McLachlan reasons that the volunteerism doesn’t need to be within the last year, but the applicant does need to show a prior commitment to the community through volunteering.
The deadline to apply is Saturday, May 1st. Applicants are asked to write an essay on their work of volunteering within the community, as well as a summary of their educational goals as they move on to post-secondary. A resume with references, as well as their student transcript are also required. You can click here to submit your application. Interviews will be held shortly after, and the recipients will be announced in May.
The Milton Rotary Club is also offering a Youth Summit that is being virtually held in April. More on that can be found here.
