Today is International Women’s Day.
The Manager of Development at Halton Women’s Place, Carm Bozzo, says it’s a great day to commemorate women in our communities and our lives.
Last year, there was a march in Milton that people were able to attend. However, that isn’t the case this year with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting events. Instead, you can show your support by taking selfies through the #ChooseToChallenge campaign.
Bozzo adds that HWP is also checking in with staff and asking if any of them have any inspiring quotes or stories that they can share for the day.
A big thing for the shelter is continuing to find ways to combat violence for women and striving for equality. Looking at ways that they can truly #ChooseToChallenge, they’re looking for things they can challenge to help make a difference – i.e. gender inequality, media stereotypes, and issues with the judicial system.
Halton Women’s Place is also selling “Courage” necklaces and bracelets.

The shelter is always looking for help from volunteers and supporters. Some services have moved online, but financial help is always need to help keep the organization running strong. If you’d wish to donate, click here.
