March is Fraud Prevention Month.
Police forces across Ontario are promoting this campaign.
According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, there were 68,452 reports of fraud in 2020 resulting in over $106.4 Million lost.
OPP Inspector Krista Miller says scammers will contact potential victims through a number of avenues.
Miller adds that police are even hearing about scams that promise COVID-19 vaccines and protection.
She says fraud is a billion-dollar industry and often scammers will pose as legitimate businesses to try and convince people to hand over their money.
