A Halton resident has reportedly died from COVID-19.
The Halton Region’s numbers suggest the death was an Oakville resident, giving the town 59 deaths total. Halton Hills has 51 deaths, Burlington has 49 deaths, and Milton has 36. Halton is now up to 195 deaths total from the virus.
Across Halton, there are 35 new cases. That brings the Region to 9356 cases total. With 8931 resolved cases and 195 deaths, Halton now has 230 active cases – nine more than Wednesday’s count. The Region says that of the 9356 total cases, 9065 were confirmed positive while 291 were considered probable cases.
In Milton, we have 13 new cases. The total is now up to 2967 cases. With 2858 resolved cases and 36 deaths, Milton is now at 73 active cases – the same as Wednesday’s count. The Region says that of the 2967 total cases, 2871 were confirmed positive while 96 were considered probable cases.
The Halton Region is also detailing the number of COVID-19 variant cases. It says that 49 total variant cases have been found in Halton: 41 were screen positive and eight were confirmed variants of concern. Milton has reportedly had 14 total variant cases: 12 were screened positive while two were confirmed variants of concern.
Looking at Milton’s major ongoing outbreaks:
- Since Sunday, January 10th, there have been 33 reported cases at Allendale. 19 are residents, three are staff members, three are unspecified, and the other eight are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases. There have been seven deaths at the LTCH: six were residents, while the other one is still not specified.
- On Monday, January 18th, the Halton Region reported an outbreak at what is classified as ‘Congregate Living – 37’. It’s believed that this is Maplehurst Correctional Facility, which was reportedly experiencing an outbreak at the same time of the same magnitude. As of the time of writing, there have been 294 total cases reported during this outbreak. 188 have been residents, 12 have been staff members, and 94 are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases.
