Three more Halton residents are dead from COVID-19.
The three deaths gives the town 51 deaths total from the virus, and the Region 194 deaths total. Oakville has 58 deaths, Burlington has 49, and Milton has 36 deaths.
Across Halton, there are 37 new cases. The total number is up to 9321 cases. With 8906 resolved cases and 194 deaths, Halton has 221 active cases – six more than yesterday’s total. The Region says that of the 9321 total cases, 9035 were confirmed positive while 286 were considered probable cases.
In Milton, we have nine new cases. The total number is now at 2954 cases. With 2845 resolved cases and 36 deaths, we now have 73 active cases – two more than Tuesday’s count. The Region says that of the 2954 total cases, 2861 were confirmed positive while 93 were considered probable cases.
The Halton Region is also detailing the number of COVID-19 variant cases. It says that 45 total variant cases have been found in Halton: 37 were screen positive and eight were confirmed variants of concern. Milton has reportedly had 13 total variant cases: 11 were screened positive while two were confirmed variants of concern.
Looking at Milton’s major ongoing outbreaks:
- Since Sunday, January 10th, there have been 33 reported cases at Allendale. 19 are residents, three are staff members, three are unspecified, and the other eight are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases. There have been seven deaths at the LTCH: six were residents, while the other one is still not specified.
- On Monday, January 18th, the Halton Region reported an outbreak at what is classified as ‘Congregate Living – 37’. It’s believed that this is Maplehurst Correctional Facility, which was reportedly experiencing an outbreak at the same time of the same magnitude. As of the time of writing, there have been 294 total cases reported during this outbreak. 188 have been residents, 12 have been staff members, and 94 are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases.
