Milton has one of the highest ranked new breweries in the world.
Third Moon Brewing is rated fifth best in the world among new breweries on RateBeer.com. The website gives out awards every year, and the Milton brewery made it onto the list. A new brewery is categorized as one that opened its doors in 2020. The rankings were decided on the ratings given to each beer that the breweries make.
Co-owner Chris Steininger says he hopes people will see the list and come check them out.
He says their drinks are making their way across Ontario, and even somehow making their way into Quebec and the states. The hope is that people can keep giving Third Moon a try as the brewery strives to become better.
It wasn’t ideal to open up a brewery during a pandemic. That said, Steininger and his business partner Steve Pilotto feel that everything has gone pretty well. The benefit of opening during a pandemic is that they didn’t have to adapt too much. They launched a website and immediately received help from local craft beer aficionados.

When it comes to ranking fifth among new breweries in the world, Steininger says that they try not to get lost in ranking systems. If that’s all he and Pilotto focused on, they’d lose sleep overnight wondering how they could get more people to like their drinks. But, he does admit that it is pretty cool.
Moving forward, Third Moon is looking to increase its quantity. They’re adding more tanks to increase their capacity on what they can do in their unit. Steininger says he doesn’t feel like much is going to change in the near future, in regards to the pandemic. While they would like to open their taproom, that likely won’t be the case as vaccines are still in the early stages of being distributed across the country.
