Imagine donating blood 100 times in your life.
That’s what Bryan Mequita will have finally achieved by February 15th.
He began donating back in high school and continued the trend into adulthood. Mequita says he feels a duty to help save lives.
The Milton resident has been a full-time firefighter for the MFD for four years now. He was a part-time firefighter for 13 years prior to earning the full-time status. He says that whenever he attends a major accident that involves someone needing to be taken to the hospital for treatment, he always thinks about ‘what if there isn’t enough blood to save this person’s life?’ It’s because of that that he keeps donating.
Typically, Canadian Blood Services takes people out to dinner when they donate 50 and 100 times. Since that can’t happen with the pandemic, he won’t be celebrating his milestone too much.
Mequita will be turning 40 this year. He’s had to miss the odd year due to donating restrictions involving travel, but he’s been pretty happy with how consistent he’s been able to donate.
His 100th blood donation will be on Family Day (Monday, February 15th). It’ll be early in the morning at the Milton Bible Church on Chisholm Drive.
