(Milton Ontario is not to be confused with Milton, Ontario)
Have you ever heard the story of Milton Ontario?
No, not our town. A book by Morgan Murray tells the story of Milton Ontario, a young man from the prairies who dreams of the glowing lights of Montreal. It’s young Milton’s goal to get out of his parents basement in the fictional town of Bellybutton, Saskatchewan and meet his idol, the late great Leonard Cohen.
The Milton Public Library is holding a live discussion with Murray about his book, titled ‘Dirty Birds’. The Manager of Public Services with the MPL, Lee Puddephatt, says that NEVER did she ever expect a character to be named Milton Ontario.
The MPL came across the book when looking at the CBC Canada Reads 2021 longlist. Puddephatt says that she and Chief Librarian Mark Williams were browsing the annual list for recommendations when they saw the description for ‘Dirty Birds’. That’s when they knew that they had to bring Murray in (virtually) to have this live discussion.
The discussion is available for anyone to watch and enjoy. It is taking place on Thursday, January 28th at 7:00 p.m.. If you’d like to watch, you can register here.
