The Halton Police is warning of the dangers of on-ice activity.
The up-and-down temperatures make for a dangerous situation on outdoor ice. myFM did a story last year on ice safety with then Acting Milton Fire Chief, Kevin Foster.
A Milton boy drowned late last year after falling through the ice at a Milton storm management pond near Reece Court. Read more on the story here.
The HRPS Marine Unit says that one person needs at least 15 cm in ice thickness to be safe. Groups require 20 cm in ice thickness.
It’s important to stay off the ice until we get consistent long term, extreme cold weather.
