Six Halton residents are reported to be dead due to COVID-19 after the weekend.
Three of the deaths were Halton Hills residents, giving the Township 36 deaths total. Two of the deaths were out of Burlington (31 deaths total), and the last death was an Oakville resident (49 deaths total). Halton now has 143 deaths from the virus.
Across Halton, there 66 new cases. That brings the Region’s total to 7564 cases. With 6983 resolved cases and 143 deaths, Halton is now at 438 active cases – 98 less than what was reported on Friday.
In Milton, we have 14 new cases. That brings our total to 2356 cases. With 2198 resolved cases and 27 deaths, Milton is now at 131 active cases – 53 less than Friday’s count.
The outbreak at the Milton District Hospital has been officially closed by the Halton Region. The outbreak finished with 18 reported cases: eight were residents, three were staff members, and seven were ‘non-Halton’ cases. There was one death at the hospital associated to this specific COVID-19 outbreak. The person was categorized as a resident. The outbreak began on December 12th and was officially closed on January 15th.
Looking at the ongoing outbreaks happening in Milton:
- Since December 16th, there have been 56 cases reported at Revera Birkdale Place. 39 of the cases have been residents, ten have been staff members, four are unspecified, and three are ‘non-Halton’ cases. There has been one death associated to the outbreak at the retirement home. It was a resident.
- As of Sunday, January 10th, a third outbreak has begun at Allendale. As of the time of writing, there are four reported cases. Two are residents, while the other two are categorized as ‘non-Halton’ cases.
A listener has informed myFM News that COVID-19 has been found at a Milton retirement home. We’re working to confirm the report; however, if it is true, the Halton Region will disclose the information in a few days regardless.
