This morning, Ontarians received a telecommunication message outlining the province’s stay-at-home order through its Alert Ready program.
A click on the link in the message takes Ontarians to a list of activities deemed “essential” by the province.
The orders went into effect today (Jan. 14) and they are as follows:
- getting food, beverages or medication
- going to medical appointments
- supporting vulnerable community members
- child care
- attending school or a post-secondary institution
- going to a bank
- accessing government services
- getting exercise or walking pets
- going to work, if you can’t do it remotely
Under certain restrictions, most businesses are permitted to stay open, save those in specific sectors.
Businesses who are not permitted to stay open are:
- Shopping malls (closed for in-person shopping with the exception of access to banks, food courts for take-away orders, government services, pick up)
- all indoor and outdoor sports and recreational fitness facilities except for:
o Facilities operated or for the sole use of high performance athletes, including parasport athletes, and specified professional leagues (e.g.,
NHL, CFL, MLS, NBA) and
o Facilities opened solely for specified purposes (e.g. child care) - Ski hills
- Museums and cultural amenities
- Concert venues, theatres and cinemas (including drive-in or drive-through events)
- Zoos and aquariums (closed to public, open for animal care and maintenance)
- Amusement and water parks
- Bathhouses and sex clubs
- Tour and guide services
- Motorsports
- Personal care services
- Casinos, bingo halls and gaming establishments
