The decision to not send elementary students back to the classroom in Southern Ontario this week was not made lightly.
Last week, the decision was made to extend online learning until at least January 25th, after an increase in COVID-19 among school-aged students across Ontario during the Christmas break. myFM News spoke with Education Minister Stephen Lecce, who says online learning certainly isn’t ideal but it’s the safest option during a spike in COVID-19 cases.
In the meantime while schools are closed, Lecce says the province is investing more money in making the classroom as safe as can be.
Over the weekend, Lecce announced the province has expanded the list of essential workers who can receive free child-care to include RCMP officers, custodial and clerical education workers and postal staff.
