January is Crime Stoppers Month.
The program was formed as an independent non-profit organization in 1983 and has grown with 38 Crime Stoppers programs currently operating in Ontario.
Over the course of the last 38 years, Crime Stoppers has been responsible for solving over 135,000 cases resulting in $310 Million in stolen property recovered, and $1.9 Billion in drug seized.
OPP Inspector Krista Miller says despite police having access to a number of tools, they still rely on anonymous tips to help in their investigations.
There was also $8.3 Million in rewards handed out.
Miller says that even with advancements in technology, Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to caller display so people who call in to report a crime will remain anonymous.
