Restaurants are taking a big hit through this provincial shutdown.
Eddie Oliveira of Eddie O’s Pourhouse and Kitchen spoke with myFM News.
He says January is normally a quiet month for restaurants, but the shutdown isn’t helping.
He adds that while there are several subsidies available for local businesses to help shoulder through the shutdown, and the pandemic as a whole, this particular shutdown will be very harmful to the long-term health of his and many other local businesses. Oliveira says that working at 15-20% of capacity just isn’t sustainable.
As a whole, he’s not a fan of the shutdown and says he’s frustrated.
Oliveira brings up the investments into extended patios and plexiglass shields for tables. He asks the question, “why did we buy these things in the first place if we’re just going to be shut down again?” He adds that other stores, namely department stores, remain open with a large number of people bumping into each other unsupervised. Oliveira says that at EddieO’s, patrons were contact traced, spaced out properly, and everything remained sanitized.
Other local businesses will be affected by the shutdown. Last week, myFM News wrote an article on how salons are looking to stay open to help remain in business.
Oliveira says the best way to support local businesses is by shopping local. Speak with your wallet and buy what you can so that the local economy doesn’t suffocate from the pandemic.
As for EddieO’s, they’re located at 370 Main St E #1 in Milton. They are available by phone at (289) 878-7489. Oliveira says they are unable to afford to maintain a website at the moment, so if you call and there’s no answer, stay on the line and leave a message. The workers are the delivery drivers currently, so they ask that you remain patient and he thanks you in advance for supporting a local business.
