33 local organizations are receiving funding through the Milton Community Fund program.
The decision was made at the most recent Town Council meeting.
The money for the program comes from the regular payments made by OLG through Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward 3, Mike Cluett, says it’s great that these organizations can get money from somewhere.
This year, the Milton Community Fund grants totalled $231,027. The Community Fund supports a wide range of community organizations and programs throughout Milton, giving more people access to sports, recreation and arts programs.
Milton Mayor Gord Krantz says that this funding will be a big help for local charities and organizations that need funding through the pandemic.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges for community organizations that rely on membership and participation fees to support their programs and activities. By providing funding to these groups through the Milton Community Fund, we are improving the quality of life for many residents while building sustainable partnerships in the local community. I want to thank all of these volunteer driven organizations for giving their time to ensure residents can access a wide variety of programs and services.”
The Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward 4, Zeeshan Hamid, says Milton is fortunate to have something like this.
Over the past 19 years, the Milton Community Fund has distributed more than $6.6 million to a wide range of not-for-profit community organizations and individuals.
