(Sameera Ali, 2019)
We are just a few days away from 2021.
As the year comes to a close, myFM News is reaching out to local figures and organizations.
Town Councillor Sameera Ali says 2020 was definitely a balancing act.
She adds that Councillors go into every budget discussion wanting to make sure that they don’t raise taxes to a point that hurts people financially.
One of Councillor Ali’s favourite moments of 2020 was helping install a wheelchair swing for a local family.
She says it was one of the highlights of her life knowing that she could help make such a positive impact on Meric’s life.
Looking at 2021, Ali says that she wants to keep fighting for residents of Ward 4. One of her biggest tasks will be improving parking in the area. The issue was raised at a recent Town Council meeting when a new 90-townhouse development was proposed for 555 Bessborough Drive, on the east side of Tremaine Road, north of Louis St. Laurent Avenue. Ali says parking is a growing issue for residents in the south-end of town and she wants to make sure that it is addressed in 2021.
Other issues that Councillor Ali will be focusing on in the New Year are that residents support local businesses to help keep them afloat through the pandemic, as well as helping end food insecurity in Milton through the Salvation Army and Milton Halal Food Bank.
Councillor Ali has a message for residents.
