Environment Canada is warning of a wet, possibly white, Christmas morning.
It issued a ‘Special Weather Statement’ Wednesday morning that says residents in Milton and the surrounding area can expect “Potentially heavy rain followed by significant snow early Friday.”
Environment Canada adds that “Rain is forecast to begin tonight ahead of an approaching low pressure system. This rain will then continue into Thursday and become heavy at times. Total rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm are likely.”
The rain is expected to change over to snow by Thursday. Several centimetres of snowfall accumulation will be possible Thursday night through Friday (Christmas) morning. That mixture of heavy rain and snowfall could lead to dangerous road conditions into Saturday morning.
According to Environment Canada, the system that is bring this precipitation is still a little uncertain. There could be some leeway as when the rain switches over to snow, and that will ultimately decide how much snowfall we get in the next few days.
Motorists should be prepared for deteriorating winter driving conditions in areas that receive snow from Thursday evening through Friday morning.
