The latest COVID-19 numbers are out and they aren’t good.
Five more residents in Halton are dead. The deaths bring the region up to 89 deaths total.
Out of the five deaths, three are Milton residents – giving Milton 21 deaths total. All three are connected to the Allendale outbreak, with two being residents and one not being specified at the time of writing. That gives Allendale 16 deaths total since the outbreak began on November 13th. Since then, there have been 83 cases: 57 residents, 11 staff members, three not specified, and twelve listed as ‘non-Halton cases’, which is a new addition to the chart.
The two other confirmed deaths appear to be Oakville and Burlington residents.
Another outbreak has been confirmed by the Halton Region. As of December 16th, Revera Birkdale Place is experiencing an outbreak. There has been one confirmed case. It is not known whether the person is a resident or staff member.
The Milton Hospital now has seven cases from its outbreak, which was first reported on December 12th. Five residents have tested positive, while two of the cases are listed as ‘non-Halton cases’.
Martindale Retirement Home is also undergoing an outbreak. Since December 14th, there have been four cases. One is a staff member, one is not specified, and two are ‘non-Halton cases’.
Across Halton, there are 76 new cases. The total is up to 4779 cases. With 4284 resolved cases and 89 deaths, Halton is at 406 active cases – three more than yesterday.
In Milton, we have 31 new cases (nearly half of the region-wide increase). The total number is now 1452 cases. With 1299 resolved cases and 21 deaths, Milton is at 132 active cases.
The increase gives Milton sole possession of the municipality with the highest active case count in Halton. Oakville is second with 120. Burlington has 119. Halton Hills has 35 active cases.
