A meat product sold at Sobeys is being recalled by Health Canada.
Levitts Foods (Canada) Inc. is recalling certain Compliments brand and Levitts brand deli meat products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Health Canada warns of the effects from the contamination, saying “Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.” It adds that “Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.”
As of the time of writing, there have been zero reported illness cases associated with the consumption of the products. However, there is one case of illness that is associated with a similar recall that happened back on December 7th.
