Spelling is a b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l hobby.
Eight-year old Yaanah Rehman placed first in the Halton Region spelling bee competition. Milton MP Adam van Koeverden stopped by her house on Saturday to congratulate Rehman on the victory.
She says she was shocked to find out that she won.
Rehman’s winning word was ‘modify’. She managed to snag the victory after her opponent misspelled ‘halter’.
Her parents, Sana Tahir and Obaid Rehman, are very happy for their daughter.
This was Yaanah’s second attempt at the spelling bee. In her first run she placed fourth.
Sana and Obaid say that Yaanah’s dream is to be an entertainer, either as an actor or singer.
Rehman also competed in the national spelling bee competition, placing fourth. If the trend continues, Milton may be home to a national spelling bee champion – and of course, the best singer.
