Businesses in Downtown Milton are getting some help online.
With support from Digital Main Street Ontario and Milton Economic Development, the Downtown Milton Business Improvement Area is launching a Digital Service Squad to connect main street small businesses with support, resources, and skills to help them build their online presence. It will help the shops adopt new technologies to promote and sell online.
Downtown Milton BIA Executive Director Rachel Shuttleworth says COVID-19 really made this support necessary.
The funding for this project was first announced back in the summer when FedDev Ontario and MEDJCT invested nearly $50 million to help Main Street businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises recover from the financial effects of COVID-19.
Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz says he wants to make sure that Milton businesses have a chance to thrive in Milton.
“Main street small businesses are an integral part of our local economy, local identity and heritage of downtown Milton. These businesses create jobs in our community and provide the products and services we need. Milton’s Digital Service Squad will ensure these business owners have access to free resources and the technical support they need to not only recover, but to continue modernizing services and serving our community for years to come.”
Shuttleworth says these shops need to find a way to keep up in the online market.
The squad will be in place until February, 2021.
