Development is coming to Milton’s south-end.
At Milton’s latest Town Council meeting, there were public meetings and Councillors reviewed a draft plan for a new subdivision at Thompson Road and Kennedy Circle.
The new subdivision falls under Regional Councillor Mike Cluett’s Ward in Ward 3. He says residents should expect more development in the southeast end of Milton.
Cluett says the public sessions with Milton residents went really well, and Town Staff will be coming back to Council with a technical report within the next couple of months to address some of the concerns that were raised during the sessions.
The planned development for the area isn’t all just houses.
Councillor Cluett says a lot of the application in Ward 3, and across the southern part of Milton, are for taller buildings – six, eight, twelve story-tall apartments and condo buildings.
He says Milton is trying to add a wide-variety in housing.
A technical report for a new Halton Catholic District School Board secondary school was brought forward to Council on Monday. According to the report, the new school would be in the area of Louis St. Laurent Avenue and Kennedy Circle.
Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward 1, Colin Best, says we are behind in building schools to coincide with Milton’s rapid growth. The more HCDSB secondary schools Milton adds, the more pressure is taken off of schools like St. Francis Xavier, which is currently utilizing upwards of 50 portables, and as Best says, there are over 300 portables in town – enough to “basically fill 14 schools.”
The schools just need to be built faster if the government expects Milton to meet its growth goals.
We’ll have more on the development in Milton (it is the song that never ends, after all) as it all develops within Milton’s Town Council.
