A Milton resident is donating the proceeds from her new small business to charity.
Momina Qureshi is a third-year student at McMaster University. At the beginning of the pandemic, she began making tie-dye shirts.
She says ‘Made by M’ blew up from there.
The tie-dying was just a way to keep herself busy. She says she is naturally a very busy person, and when the pandemic first began, she found herself with no more school and no more work. With the help of her friends, and her father building the skeleton of her website, Qureshi was able to launch her small business during a pandemic.
Why did she donate the money? She says she just wanted to give back to Milton the best way that she could.
Qureshi is currently going to school for Business, majoring in Marketing, which is very fitting.
Her father, Khurram, says his daughter has always been a leader. From President of her Student Council, to then taking on a similar role at McMaster University, he says Momina has always been “an amazing kid.” He’s very proud to see her donate the proceeds.
The Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward 3, Mike Cluett, was on-hand for a cheque presentation, as was the Town Councillor for Ward 4, Sameera Ali, and Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz.
Councillor Cluett also happens to be a United Way Campaign Cabinet Member. He was in attendance when United Way launched their campaign for 2020-2021. He says Qureshi is making a huge difference with her work.
$5350 was donated to the United Way Halton and Hamilton COVID-19 Relief Fund.
You can check ‘Made by M’ out at their website. Qureshi says the final date to order products was on September 21st; however, with the success it had this summer, she is considering keeping it going once school slows down again. She says if another trend (like tie-dying this summer) pops up next year, that may spark her creativity enough to raise more funds for charity.
