The Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation is holding a virtual Candle Lighting Ceremony.
This is an annual event that began in-person last year.
The Director of Development for the organization, Kate Holmes, says it’s about giving people a chance to mourn.
From Townsend Smith’s event bio, it reads as, “the online ceremony will include the readings of personal intentions, reflections on what hospice care provides those in need, live music and lighting of votive candles in memory of individuals we have lost.”
One person who will be taking on a bigger role with the organization is Town Councillor for Milton’s Ward 1, Kristina Tesser Derksen. She was recently named a Member of the Board.
She talks about why she wanted to get involved with the Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation.
Councillor Tesser Derksen adds that she has since kept her practicing license as a funeral director because she still wants to be involved with the industry, even as she has moved on to law and politics.
She explains why the grieving process is so important.
The candle lighting ceremony will be held virtually tonight at 7:00 p.m.. You can register to be on the Zoom call. There is no deadline to register as the link will be live up until the event begins. Find everything you need to sign up here.
