How is the forecast looking for autumn?
With October underway, myFM News reached out to Environment Canada to get a weather projection for Milton and the surrounding area.
Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says the systems they use are improving at rapid paces. That leads to about a day’s worth of accuracy every decade. To break that down, it means a five-day forecast in 2020 is about as accurate as a four-day forecast in 2010.
He says that while he can’t confidently project months in advance, the next little stretch looks fairly ugly.
Prior to the last week or so, we were shaping up to have a September with a higher average temperature than usual. Kimbell says the final stretch of the month dropped the mean temperature fairly significantly.
Northern Ontario is already forecasting snow. As the daily highs and lows continue to drop in southern Ontario, it’s possible we’ll see a bit of snow in October in our area; however, don’t expect anything outrageous.
He does pump the brakes a bit, adding that it is uncommon to get much snow, if any, in our area of Ontario this time of year.
