The Town of Milton will be proclaiming October 1st ‘Nigeria Day’.
There will be a proclamation by Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz to recognize the 60th Nigerian Independence Day. There will also be a flag raising at Town Hall. The event is being put together and promoted by the Association of Nigerian Community Milton.
Milton-resident Edosa Adams-Idode talks about what it means to see Nigerian Independence Day recognized by the Town.
Adams-Idode says it’s also important for the children of Milton to see other cultures recognized in this way.
It will be a day of celebration for the local Nigerian community. Milton-resident Segun Bucknor says there will be more than just a proclamation and flag raising on October 1st.
Members of the Association of Nigerian Community Milton will take part in Arts for Causes. They are challenging the youth in the community to create art. The youth are encouraged to promote their artistic talents to celebrate Nigerian Independence Day.
There will also be a cultural celebration. That means the local Nigerian community will be dressed in traditional Nigerian attire and speaking in traditional Nigerian languages. They will also have traditional Nigerian cuisine that families will be making for the event. The Association will record the event, cut together all of the recorded footage, and release the finished product to the Milton community.
The proclamation for Nigeria Day will take place at Milton’s Town Hall at 11:00 a.m. on October 1st. Due to COVID-19, there is a limited number of people that can attend. If you would like to be a part of the celebration, you can reach out to the Association of Nigerian Community Milton directly. You can reach them at AssociationofNigeriansMilton@gmail.com.
The Association is also open to partnerships with other organizations. The group recently donated to the Milton District Hospital Foundation to support frontline workers.
