There’s going to be a shoe strike in Milton this Friday, September 25th.
It’s being put together by Fridays for Future and will be held across Halton in different areas.
In a release, Sustainable Milton says, “this is a critical moment in Canada’s history and with the Town of Milton having declared a climate emergency in July 2019, the time to act is now… The vast majority of Canadians want a Just Recovery for all and our shoes represent those who would like to be heard and counted in a Green Economic Recovery that Builds Canada Better.”
Milton residents are asked to drop off their shoes between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Friday as part of the Global Day of Climate Action. The shoe strike is taking place on the front lawn of St. Paul’s United Church at 123 Main Street East, at the corner of James Street in Downtown Milton. The shoes, boots or any other kind of footwear will be lined along the lawn.
You can also volunteer your shoes by dropping them off on Thursday, September 24th between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Green Eatery at 20 Martin Street in Milton, near Mill Pond.
Participants are then asked to pick their shoes up at 2:00 p.m., and any shoes hanging around after 4:00 p.m. will be donated to local charities.
