The Town of Milton is developing its first Culture Plan.
The Manager of Cultural Services, Carly Anderson, says the Plan is intended to provide investment into culture across Milton.
She knows that’s not as easy as it sounds.
As Anderson says, culture can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Milton has a lot of unique and diverse people, and the Town wants to “recognize [culture’s] importance to Milton’s vibrant, inclusive, and engaged community.”
It’s not as simple as music and art.
The Town’s Director of Culture and Community Development, Joy Anderson, says it’s also about shared experiences.
“As Milton grows, culture will tie our community together and create a shared experience for our residents and visitors. Through its storytelling and recognition of our past and present, the plan will envision a path forward for Milton’s cultural identity that is reflective of our community.”
Carly Anderson adds that they want to hear from residents; the good and what’s missing.
You can take part in helping shape the Culture Plan. Complete surveys, attend virtual drop-in events, and take-part in artist-led culture conversations at pop-ups in the community. All events have been set up in accordance with COVID-19 health and safety guidelines.
The Town’s Culture Plan is currently in Phase One. Phase Two and Three will follow throughout the year. It’s expected to be completed by the winter of 2021.
