Milton’s Austin Kjorven will be spending this Labour Day on a 10k run for charity.
His goal is to raise $10,000 for Right to Play while also breaking the Guinness World Record for running 10km with a stroller.
He talks about where the idea came from.
Kjorven reached out to Guinness prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He was going to use a marathon for the record but had to change his plans when everything began shutting down.
That was when he realized that he should use the opportunity to raise money for people in need.
He’ll be donating the funds raised to Right to Play, an organization that works with children across the world.
They provide children the opportunity to play sports and games.
The teacher explains why he chose the organization for his fundraiser.
According to Kjorven, the current record for a 10km run with a stroller recognized by Guinness is roughly 45-minutes.
He says his personal best is around 35-minutes; however, because the activity involves both running and pushing a stroller, the environment plays a big role in the time. Kjorven hopes he will be able to break the record and raise money for a cause that means so much personally.
Kjorven’s wife, Alex, had a major part in organizing the run. He commends her for her work as the Race Director.
The Keeping the Distance 10k Labour Day Fundraiser will be happening at the Milton Velodrome on Monday, September 7th.
It will start at 8:00 a.m..
You can actually join the race. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a limit to how many people are allowed to participate. Runners will move in waves along Tremaine Road to allow for physical distancing.
