The Halton District School Board has made it clear to the Education Minister.
They need more of a heads up before announcements are made and they have to hold off on the new math curriculum.
Halton District School Board Chair Andréa Grebenc says their expectation is simple.
She says without more time they can’t provide more information to the community on a more timely basis.
Also, she is pleading with the government to pause the implementation of a new math plan citing timing and adding that if it fails it won’t be because of teachers.
The letter also points to several other issues including the option to use reserve funds for smaller class sizes, saying it won’t be possible to hire enough teachers and secure enough new space with those limited funds.
The trustees estimate the board would need 1,200 additional teachers to shrink elementary school classes to 15 students.
