
York Regional Police have charged 13 people in a nationwide theft investigation, including four Milton residents.
The joint-investigation began in July and was spread across British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland.
The following people have been charged:
- 31-year-old Alin Lautaru of Markham
- 40-year-old Alina Lautaru of Markham
- 27-year-old Mirela Lautaru of Markham
- 22-year-old Ionut Lautaru of Markham
- 28-year-old Ionut Gheorghe of Markham
- 29-year-old Maria Iamandita of Markham
- 31-year-old Felicia Ozun of Markham
- 31-year-old Gabriel Sandu of Markham
- 39-year-old Claudia Sandu of Markham
- 35-year-old Ali Asjad of Milton
- 26-year-old Milton man
- 32-year-old Nosheen Asjad of Milton
- 34-year-old Syed Bukhari of Milton
They have all been charged with:
- Participation in a Criminal Organization
- Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
The stolen items were then shipped to a main location in Markham.
Officers tracked suspects to the residence and found connected locations in other residences and storage containers.
A warrant was executed and more than $250,000 in stolen property was recovered, including over $67,000 in cash.
Items included cosmetics, perfume, health care products, smoke alarms, electric hand tools, and more.
