A Milton-native is currently playing in a basketball bubble in Florida.
Kayla Alexander is a Center for the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA.
Recently, the league announced zero positive COVID-19 tests in their players since starting their season.
Alexander believes what they have put in place is working.
The WNBA has been very outspoken against racism and has been promoting the Black Lives Matter movement.
Alexander says she’s proud to be a part of a powerful group of women.
Alexander is also the author of a children’s book titled ‘The Magic of Basketball’.
She wrote it to inspire a younger generation of girls to follow the sport that she grew up playing.
This past off-season saw NCAA Women’s Basketball Superstar Sabrina Ionescu be drafted first overall in the WNBA Draft to the New York Liberty.
As a young pro, Alexander hopes Ionescu can enjoy every moment, even with Ionescu’s recent sprained ankle taking her out of action for close to a month.
Alexander says she hopes her season with Minnesota goes well, despite the circumstances.
The Lynx have been a perennial contender in the WNBA, having won four championships since 2011. They’re off to a good start this season, so hopefully Alexander can bring a championship home to Milton when it’s all said and done.
