A new funding model has been introduced by the province to encourage the building of more long-term care homes.
myFM spoke with Minister of Long-Term Care, Merrilee Fullerton, who says modernizing the system will help break down barriers and accelerate construction.
Fullerton adds the plan will reduce the waiting list and ensure seniors living in a setting that is clean and comfortable.
She adds that the building of long-term care homes has not kept up with the demand.
She also says that design standards for homes are being updated.
Fullerton adds the new formula will pay builders more, and include grants to cover up to 17 percent of up-front capital costs.
