A VICE article released this morning written by Steven Zhou details that Milton resident and Peel police officer, Michael Vertolli, is being investigated for allegedly posting islamophobic posts on social media.
Joe Cardi, Staff Sergeant with the Peel Police goes into detail what it means to be under a Professional Standards investigation.
The investigation could last a couple of months as well.
The article also says that Vertolli is alleged to have “also shared links aimed at antagonizing the Black Lives Matter movement.”
Staff Sergeant Cardi says that Peel Police has the tools to discover if the posts are his or are fake.
Vertolli is a prominent member in the Milton community, having worked on the Milton Santa Claus parade, as well as with the Knights of Columbus. In 2018, he ran for Town Councillor for Ward 2.
We also reached out to Vertolli. He declined to comment.
