Seven Milton high school students have received scholarships from the Milton Chamber of Commerce.
All seven students will receive $1,000. Each year, the Chamber raises the money through the Milton Farmers’ Market Scholarship Cafe and the Sports Celebrity Dinner & Auction.
The President and CEO of the Milton Chamber, Scott McCammon, says there were a few hoops to jump through this year.
The Chamber raises the money for the scholarships the year before they’re handed out.
Will next year’s scholarships be affected by the pandemic? McCammon covers that topic.
The Milton Chamber was able to acknowledge the winners last year with a formal ceremony at the Milton Farmers’ Market.
McCammon says they’ve kept in touch with some of the recipients over the years.
Here are this year’s recipients:
– Sean D’Mello, Bishop Reding Catholic S.S.
– Davin Caratao, Bishop Reding Catholic S.S.
– Sudipti (Sudu) Kapar, Craig Kielburger S. S.
– Taha Memon, Craig Craig Kielburger S. S.
– Amira Chahbar. E.C. Drury
– Mairead Murphy, Jean Vanier Catholic S. S.
– Eric Shi, Milton District H. S.
McCammon says they aren’t able to hold an official ceremony this year, due to gathering restrictions set by the provincial government. The Milton Farmers’ Market is currently being held at Country Heritage Park’s Gambrel Barn because Main Street is off-limits while the COVID-19 outbreak continues.
