Milton Town Council approved a funding agreement that would advance the completion of background studies for the Britannia Secondary Plan.
There were five projects that were supported through the Capital Budget, but because of Bill 108, the projects were contingent upon a funding agreement with the landowner’s group.
Regional Councillor for Ward 3, Mike Cluett, says that it was necessary to get the funding in place for this project.
He adds that even with COVID-19, projects like this one have been a challenge to navigate.
From a Town of Milton’s perspective, Councillor Cluett says that the value goes beyond the buildings.
The Britannia Secondary Plan Area encompasses approximately 1,040 hectares immediately south of the Boyne Survey Secondary Plan area and is included in the Sustainable Halton Plan, which identifies population and employment targets to 2031.
The purpose of the Secondary Plan is to establish a detailed planning framework and development concept for infrastructure and land use for the Britannia Secondary Plan Area.
Building upon the general framework provided for in the Town and Regional Official Plans, the Secondary Plan will establish policies that will result in complete, healthy, and sustainable communities.
The plan will also establish the detailed land use structure, road network, transit, and servicing networks, housing unit mix, an open space system, and will identify major community facility requirements.
The five projects will total $1,560,872.
